The ATDF team unveiled its Matchmaking Platform (E-mentoring) at the Multi-Expert Meeting on Enterprise Development on 19 January 2011 at UNCTAD in Geneva. The presentation was attended by multilateral and national organisations involved in mentoring and business assistance services representing Europe, the United States of America, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
What is the ATDF Platform?
The ATDF Matchmaking Platform is an innovative service that enables online matching of promising entrepreneurs with experienced mentors. Its aim is to promote sustainable growth of local SMEs in Africa and elsewhere in the developing world.
In this context, ATDF invites aspiring young African entrepreneurs who want to start a business, look for an investor or business partner or wish to solve a specific business problem, to register online and fill out the respective entrepreneurship and business profile on the Platform.
Assuring the quality of entrepreneurs and mentors
ATDF is partnering with certified national and international business service providers and mentoring organisations that will serve as contact points and third party references for entrepreneurs and mentors in the respective country.
Entrepreneurs that register on the platform will therefore be asked to mention an affiliation with such an organisation in their respective country or region. The mentioned organisation e.g. a UN EMPRETEC center, will then be informed about the registration. If EMPRETEC is not yet present the respective country or region an equivalent business development organisation must be mentioned.
Mentors, in turn, will also be asked to mention an affiliation with one of the numerous existing mentoring organisations, which could provide them with assistance.
